Digital switchover
You still need a TV Licence after the digital switchover
The digital switchover is taking place between 2008 and 2012, region by region, throughout the UK. After the switchover, everyone in the country will need a digital box or digital TV to watch TV.

If you’re over 75, receiving disability living/attendance allowance, or you’re blind or severely sight impaired, you can get help from the Digital Switchover Help Scheme. You'll receive more information about this when your region is due to switch.
The TV Licence laws for digital TV are the same as for traditional analogue TV. So after the switchover, you’ll still need a TV Licence to watch or record TV programmes as they’re being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder.
