Direct Debit

Spread the cost of your licence with monthly or quarterly Direct Debit payments. You can also choose to pay the full TV Licence fee of £145.50 in one go.

Yearly You automatically pay the full TV Licence fee of £145.50 in one go.
Monthly*

You'll usually pay for your first licence within six months, in instalments of around £24 per month. (If we have to spread the cost into four or five monthly instalments, the cost may be slightly higher). From then on, you pay for your licences in 12 monthly instalments of just over £12 - six before your licence is due and six after.

Just one of the ways to help make paying more convenient at no extra cost.

Quarterly* You pay instalments of around £37 every three months. By paying quarterly the majority of your licence is paid for on a pay-as-you-go basis. This differs from our other instalment schemes, where at least half of the licence fee is collected in advance. As a result, quarterly payments incur a small premium of £1.25 per quarter which is included in your payment.

For yourself

You’ll need your bank or building society details, as well as your current TV Licence number if you’re renewing.

Please ensure that you enter the address of the person you’re paying for. The payment will be taken from your own bank account.

You can pay online now if your business account has a sole signatory. If your business account requires more than one signatory you’ll need to apply by post. Just print out the Direct Debit form (opens in new window), complete your application and post it to us at:

Direct Debit Guarantee

All Direct Debits are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee

This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits.

If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit, TV Licensing will notify you ten working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request TV Licensing to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request.

If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit by TV Licensing or your bank or building society you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society.

If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when TV Licensing asks you to.

You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
